Rev. Dr Marcello Ghirlando OFM

26/07/2022Following his Master’s degree in Pastoral Theology in 1979, he pursued further studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 1981 and a Licentiate in Psychology in 1982, presenting a thesis titled: “Treating Husband and Wife: Analysis of Contemporary Approaches in Marital Therapy.”
In 1992, he embarked on a Ph.D. degree program in Pastoral Counseling at Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. During this period, he completed a two-year internship at the Towson State University Counseling Center in Baltimore, Maryland, and a one-year training program at the Sexual Behavior Consultation Unit in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, also in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. In 1996, he graduated with a dissertation titled: “Development and Validation of the Commitment to Partnership Scale: Applying Psychological Constructs to Pastoral Issues in Marriage.”
Since 1996, he has held the position of Senior Lecturer in Pastoral Counseling in the Faculty of Theology at the University of Malta. Additionally, he serves as a Lecturer specializing in psychometrics and psychological assessment within the Department of Psychology. Over the years, he has taken on various leadership roles, including being the Head of the Department of Pastoral Theology, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Theology, and a member of the University Senate.
In 2013, he was appointed as an Associate Professor, and in 2019, he attained the rank of full Professor. His areas of specialization encompass personality assessment, clinical psychology, and marriage counseling.
Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Agius
26/07/2022Ms Silvana Cardona
26/07/2022Silvana Cardona is a dedicated pastoral worker within the Spiritual Development in Schools department in the Archdiocese of Malta. With three decades of experience as an educator, she has taught young people facing social, emotional, and behavioural challenges. Since 2014, she has voluntarily coordinated the Prayer Spaces Team in Malta, collaborating with Fr Paul Chetcuti SJ and Fr Reuben Gauci. In 2019, Silvana transitioned to a full-time role within the Archdiocese of Malta. She has completed a Higher Education Award in Pastoral Care/Chaplaincy in Schools through the Pastoral Formation Institute.
Silvana leads prayer spaces in the Award in Creating and Animating Prayer Spaces Training Course, as well as other training sessions in both church and state schools. Her sessions cater to senior leadership teams, educators at the primary and secondary levels, literacy educators, catechists, youth groups, Parish Centres, Learning Support Centres, Skolasajf Centres, and FEE Fest.
Her dedication has led her to attend various international events, including the Prayer Spaces in Schools European Leaders Round Table in Guildford, UK; the Prayer Spaces Day Conference in London; and The Gathering-24-7 Prayer International in Birmingham and Vienna. These experiences have enriched her knowledge, facilitated spiritual growth, and provided her with fresh ideas for creating impactful prayer spaces.
Mr Chris Triganza
26/07/2022Mr Chris Triganza has been doing marriage preparation courses organised by Cana Movement for the past 15 years. She is currently Chaircouple of the Kummissjoni Parrokkjali Familja in Ħal Tarxien.
Rev. Walter Vassallo OFM
26/07/2022Rev. Walter Vassallo obtained a Bachelors Degree in Sacred Theology (S.Th.B.) at the University of Malta. He then studied Canon Law at the Pontifical University Antonianum, in Rome, where he obtained his Licenciate (J.C.L.). His thesis regarded the “stable form of living” which should characterise religious life. Since January 2017, he has been working at the Metropolitan Tribunal of First Instance and is a guest lecturer at the University of Malta, lecturing on Consecrated Life in the Code of Canon Law.
Rev. Matthew Pulis
26/07/2022Rev. Matthew Pulis is a Catholic priest and has graduated with an MSc Informatics from the University of Malta and with an MA in Digital Theology from the University of Durham. He is currently reading for a PhD at the Department of Pastoral Theology at the Faculty of Theology in the University of Malta. His research attempts to develop a pastoral language to engage the Maltese Gaming Generation (aged 10 – 25 years).
Mr Karl Cortis
26/07/2022After graduating as a teacher of Physical Education, Mr Karl Cortis spent nine years teaching the subject at the Archbishop’s Seminary School. In 2018, he graduated as a teacher mentor and was responsible for mentoring trainee teachers and newly qualified teachers. In 2019, Mr Karl Cortis obtained a Master of Science from School of Sport and Exercise Rehabilitation Sciences within University of Birmingham. His dissertation focused on Physical Education Assessment in Maltese Secondary Schools. He is trained in ‘Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility Through Sport’.
Mr Karl Cortis occupied various roles in the field of sport, including being coach and subsequently, head coach at Sport Malta. In 2010, he was awarded the ‘Annabelle Vassallo Award’ for being most committed coach at Sport Malta.
Currently, Mr Karl Cortis is a lecturer of Physical Education (P.E.) and Sport at the University of Malta Junior College. He also lectures at the Institute for Physical Education and Sport within Faculty of Education at the University of Malta. He is currently reading for a PhD and is basing his research on the implementation of cooperative learning and digital technologies in physical education.
Rev. David Cortis OSA
23/06/2022Fr David Cortis, OSA, graduated in B. Commerce in 2000 and in 2002 graduated in B. Accountancy (Hons) from the University of Malta, with the dissertation: The applicability of social auditing in the Maltese Co-operatives. He worked as an accountant and an auditor, both in Malta and abroad with KPMG; one of the top-four international audit firms. In 2013 he graduated in Sacred Theology (S.TH.B) from the University of Malta. In January 2016 he obtained a Licentiate in Moral Theology and Pastoral Theology from the Pontifical University of Comillas in Madrid, with the dissertation entitled Moral Signification of Wealth: A comparison between wealth in the Gospel according to Luke and wealth in contemporary capitalism.
He is a member of the Department of Moral Theology as an Assistant Lecturer.
