Biography

Rev. Antoine Farrugia is a Salesian priest and a Registered Social Worker involved with young people, NGOs, as well as church and government entities at service delivery, management and policy levels in Malta and abroad. Certified in the supervision and training of social workers, care workers and volunteers providing services for young people in difficult situations, he has served as Head of Care at St Patrick’s Residential Children Services and was later responsible for the minors at Osanna Pia Home. In 2008 he was responsible for opening Don Bosco House in Balzan, the first community-based residential home providing family-like care for young people in Malta. He served on the Executive of the Malta Association of Social Workers (2007-2009) and functioned as a volunteer, then Supervisor and eventually Support Services Manager with the national online helpline for youth Kellimni.com (2013-2016).


Rev. Antoine Farrugia has lectured and presented around the topic of Children in Out-of-Home Care in Malta, in Brussels and at the UN in New York. He currently forms part of the Salesian Community in Senglea, where he runs the Youth Centre and the VO Home Away from Home and serves on the MCAST Salesian Chaplaincy Team. His work in the Church includes the oversight of Safeguarding for the Salesians of Don Bosco as well as for the Maltese Church’s Safeguarding Commission.
