The intended learning outcomes:

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  1. familiarise themselves with safeguarding policies
  2. understand the legal obligations with child abuse
  3. identify signs and symptoms of abuse
  4. know the disclosures of abuse
  5. identify the principles of safeguarding
  6. practice professional boundaries
  7. know their legal obligations related to the Protection of Minors (Registration) Act (2011) and the Minors Protection Act (2019)
  8. learn about the different types of abuse and poor practice
  9. learn a standard response to a disclosure of abuse
  10. be able to recognise signs of abuse
  11. identify the actions to take if you have a concern and who can help

Introduction to the Ministry of the Word for Church of Our Lady of Atocia (Tas-Samra)

This course is designed for individuals serving as lectors in their parishes or churches, equipping them to be today’s prophets who proclaim God’s Word with reverence and understanding. It begins with an introduction to the Holy Scriptures, offering a comprehensive overview. Participants will learn to identify different types of texts, such as letters, commands, and narratives, and how to effectively communicate these in their ministry.

The course also explores the use of the Lectionary, deepening participants’ understanding of its structure and purpose in liturgical settings. Lectors will receive guidance on praying with the Holy Scriptures, enriching their spiritual lives and enhancing their ability to proclaim the Word.

Additionally, the course includes training in public speaking, enabling participants to deliver Scripture readings with confidence, clarity, and conviction.

Sacraments Explained: for Parents for Parroċċa Birkirkara – Santa Marija

The sacraments are central to the Christian faith and act as visible signs of God’s grace and an invitation to deepen our spiritual journey. This course is designed for parents to deepen their understanding of the sacraments particularly the Eucharist and Confession, not only to enrich their own faith but also to pass on these values to their children. The concluding seminar will be an opportunity for reflection, discussion and activities for parents to encourage the transmission of faith within their family.

Parents of children attending catechism at Parroċċa Birkirkara – Santa Marija

Target Audience Age: 18+

This course comprises pre-recorded lectures, which can be accessed on the Moodle platform at a time and pace that suits you. The lectures will cover the following topics:

  • Introduction to the Seven Sacraments
  • The Sacrament of Confession
  • The Sacrament of the Eucharist
  • The Sacraments of Confession and Eucharist in Scriptures
  • Sunday Mass – Participating as one family
  • The Sacrament of Confession as a sacrament of joy

An in-person Seminar will be held on Sunday 19th April 2026 between 8:30am till 10:00am at the parish hall.

In a world shaped by clicks, screens, and shared stories, the digital landscape offers a vast frontier for evangelization, community-building, and meaningful dialogue. This course provides a structured practical pathway for pastoral workers and volunteers who will be guided through the key areas of the digital presence including understanding digital culture, the language used on social media, content creation, and building a sustainable web presence. This course is intended not only to pastoral workers and parish volunteers, but also to members of ecclesial entities and groups who are interested in digital ministry or currently contribute to their online presence—whether through websites or social media.

Pastoral workers and volunteers – not just the ones in parishes but other ecclesial entities and groups – who are interested in the subject or are involved in the entity’s digital presence (web or social).

Target Audience Age: 18+

The course will take place on Wednesdays from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Ta’ Mlit Pastoral Centre, Mosta

This short course will assist employees and volunteers who work with children and vulnerable adults or handle their data, to recognise the key principles of safeguarding and learn to create a safe environment for children, young people, and vulnerable adults.

The intended learning outcomes:

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  1. familiarise themselves with safeguarding policies
  2. understand the legal obligations with child abuse
  3. identify signs and symptoms of abuse
  4. know the disclosures of abuse
  5. identify the principles of safeguarding
  6. practice professional boundaries
  7. know their legal obligations related to the Protection of Minors (Registration) Act (2011) and the Minors Protection Act (2019)
  8. learn about the different types of abuse and poor practice
  9. learn a standard response to a disclosure of abuse
  10. be able to recognise signs of abuse
  11. identify the actions to take if you have a concern and who can help

This course has three exit certificate options: 

  1. Certificate of Attendance

A Certificate of Attendance will be rewarded to students who have:

  • attended in-person session
  • watched all the recorded material
  • and did not submit any course assessments.
  1. Certificate of Participation 

A Certificate of Participation* will be rewarded to students who meet the attendance criteria and successfully conclude the course multiple choice test. (please check the calendar tab above for exam dates)

  1. Certificate of Achievement 

A Certificate of Achievement* is awarded to students who successfully concluded the course, that is;

  • meet the attendance criteria
  • sit and pass the short multiple-choice online exam (mentioned in point 2),
  • and also submit a written assessment

Introduction to Catholic Social Teaching for Żgħażagħ Azzjoni Kattolika

This course offers a brief introduction to the key principles of the Social Teachings of the Catholic Church. Participants will be introduced to the history and delve into how Catholic Social Teaching is an essential art of being Christian. The course encourages reflection on Catholic Social teaching in action and a practical element is central. Small group activities, presentation of ideas and discussion are also central.

Members of Żgħażagħ Azzjoni Kattolika interested in Catholic Social Teaching and its application in everyday life.

Target Audience Age: 16+
