Biography

Rev. John Vella OFM Cap joined the Capuchin Order in 1979. He underwent training in Philosophy and Theology at INSERM, subsequently being ordained a priest in 1986. Following conferment of Holy Orders, he earned a Diploma in Pastoral Theology at the Faculty of Theology, formerly at Tal-Virtù.

In 1988, Rev. Vella delved into the Pastoral Theology of Health Care with a course at the Camillanium in Rome, graduating Magna cum Laude in 1991. Upon returning to Malta, he assumed the role of Chaplain at various hospitals. In 1992, he was appointed as a student adviser in what is now the Faculty of Health Sciences. A role he served in until late 2022.

Beyond advising students and staff, he lectured on Spirituality, Ethics, and Communications, specializing in these areas. Additionally, he acted as a Spiritual Director for various groups and organizations, offering voluntary services at multiple institutions. After retiring from the Faculty of Health Sciences, Rev. Vella shifted his focus to counseling individuals, couples, and families. He also engaged in spiritual direction for groups and currently lectures at the University of the Third Age, emphasizing the interrelationships between Spirituality, Ethics, and Communication.
